Multi level C&C cavy cage?

I'm purchasing a C%26amp;C cage for my girls (http://www.cavycages.com/ ), and want to make2 levels... easy enough.

But I also have a dog, 2 cats, and brothers. How can I protect them with a cover?

I'd like something clean and sturdy, and easily acessible for feeding and playing.

I've considered using the cubes all across the top, but I will need many, which drives the price to a last resort situation.

The size will be 2X4 (10.5 sq. feet) ((maybe2X5... still haveto measure)) and the upper deck will be 2X2. There will be a 6" wide? ramp, with railing.

My dad is really into woodshop and that sort of thing, so any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!

you can make a top out if the same c%26amp;c grids that is how i read it on a web site and just make a wall around the 2nd story some how with the grids to use your imagination lol

good luck
Reply:You can use extra grids secured with nylon zip ties to enclose the 2x2 area. For the bottom, go get some wire shelving from any home improvement store (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.). They come in 4' and 6' lengths. Lay these across the top of the bottom area and secure with zip ties. They make zip ties that are removable, so those would be best for the bottom area lids, since you'll want to be able to open them and/or take them off completely for cleaning.

Good luck with your cage. I'll bet it turns out really cool!
Reply:You and your dad could build a shelve that could support the lower level and the upper level. That way you can have the ramp go from the top level to the bottom level. Does that make sense? I wish I could draw you a picture, then it would make more sense.

you will probably need to make a door that can flip down for the top and bottom. And the coroplast would need to be pull-outs so it would be easier to clean.
Reply:I'm only commenting on the "lid" idea... you and your dad are on your own for cage designs, implementing it, etc.

The wire grid type shelves used for closets, or just for shelves. They're they're longer, in various lengths, and various widths. If you used two, and somehow hinged them to the cube sides so you can open it and the other critters couldn't get to the piggies... it doesn't come across good in words, but if you saw the shelves... I think there's something about it on http://guineapigcages.com

OR...

Since your Dad is into woodworking, he can build a wood frame for the lid, and get wire mesh to attach to the framing to keep out the others.

I would definitely love to see pictures of the new cage when it's finished. Have fun!
